Gesture & Mass

On Saturday Nov. 23 I offered an Expressive Knife Painting workshop at Calgary School of Art.

After determining our layout by doing thumbnail value sketches based on the still life setup we began drawing onto a toned surface with a rag wrapped around our index finger. By drawing the directional movement and indicating the mass placement of the subject we created a good road map for further painting. I intend to post the different stages and attempt to explain my process as I move towards applying colour and texture using a knife to finish this painting.
